Movie Review: Savages
Jul. 23rd, 2012 12:41 amJust saw Oliver Stone’s Savages, which I’ve wanted to see ever since watching the trailer, in which I thought there was a two-guys-one-girl threesome that was treated seriously. I’m not sure why, but I fucking love the idea of threesomes in fandoms (not such a big fan of the idea in my own love life). By “threesomes,” I mean lifelong partnerships in which three people form strong bonds and love each other equally and have equal power in a relationship that they have decided to mutually enter into. Maybe it’s the idea that two people are worrying about the third if they’re in some kind of danger? Whatever it is, I find the dynamics in threesomes just awesome (read my recs lists if you don’t believe me).
The only other one I’ve seen on film that I can think of at the moment was the supremely sexy Y Tu Mamá También, which was a much better movie than Savages. However, I gave Savages a chance, and while it was way, way too violent for me (which…yeah, I should have anticipated), its treatment of the threesome elements was at least halfway decent, though I wanted a lot more.
( In a word: threesomes! (and mild thematic spoilers). )
