Oh, I'm so glad someone else felt this way! I'm not alone anymore! :) I was feeling kind of bad because everyone else I know who's read it totally fell in love. And I definitely liked it--and couldn't put it down--but it wasn't as awesome as I had been told. But then again, that happened to me after I read Twilight and didn't like it while almost all of my friends did, and I'm glad I stuck to my guns there.
But mainly because the author set up some interesting issues and then bottled out. Will she kill the other nice kids to survive or won't she...? Oh look, turns out she didn't have to.
Definitely! Something I really appreciate in fiction is when they take characters to really difficult places and, importantly, show us the aftermath. And Collins didn't do that too much. (Incidentally, that's something I loved about the John and Stephen situation in your series. It was great to not only read about the situation but also how John was torn up about it and actually had to deal with what he'd done.)
