The movie was somewhat funny. Such a fantastic cast! I love George Clooney. I used to love Ewan McGregor, but then Star Wars happened. I have an obsessive love for Kevin Spacey (and a lesser one for Jeff Bridges) since I saw them in their fantastic movie K-Pax--talk about seeing the world in a different way! K-Pax is about a mental health patient (Spacey) who pretty much manages to convince his psychiatrist (Bridges) that he is an alien from the planet K-Pax. A fantastic piece of drama ensues. As an audience member, you keep asking yourself, "Is it possible for a human to see the world in this way? Can a human actually see things we usually think are invisible, such as UV radiation? Is it possible for a human to be so interested in the refraction of light or communicating with animals or how wonderful our produce is?" An excellent movie, though.
Men Who Stare at Goats, though...
At best, it's a mildly funny satire about our military-industrial complex and Cold War-era thinking. The best interaction in the film was when a general explains that the U.S. did not have a psychic program, but then France started a rumor that we did, which the USSR believed, so they started building one, so now that they have one based on our fake one, we have to start one. That makes sense to me as part of the hilarity (and terror) of the Cold War, and it resonated well. But during the rest of the movie, I was just like, "Why?" It didn't seem to really be about anything, kind of a waste of such a fantastic cast (who all acted extremely well; my complaint is the script). Still, kind of fun. Worth seeing once on DVD.
